Dear Graduates…

It’s commencement season and graduates everywhere are celebrating their years of hard work—as well they should! No matter what you’re graduating from, completing a course of study is a huge achievement and a chance to reflect on what you’ve learned.

I recently asked you and your fellow readers what you would say to this year’s graduates as they get ready to start a new chapter in their lives.

Listen up grads, here are our words of advice and encouragement:

“Focus on developing a balance in your lives. Spend time reflecting on your goals avoiding the pitfalls that social media may drive you toward. We are all individuals on this beautiful planet and all have amazing gifts to share with the world. Remember you are enough as you are.”

“Don’t waste time on what others say or think about you. Just focus on being the better person and keeping your side of the street clean. Oh yeah one last thing, always remember to love yourself. You’re worth it.

“Keep voting and live up to your full potential. Do not take this time for granted. Time is the most valuable thing we have and make sure you use this time to become the best you. Reach the goals you set for yourself and never listen to outside noise. Keep pushing and I will see you on the flip side.”

“To the graduates of 2024, my advice to you would be to follow your heart and mind. Learn to love and trust yourself, it will never steer you wrong. You will explore what you like and don’t like, make mistakes, but make sure you remember to never dim your light for anyone. As long as you focus on yourself, you will learn what you want and don’t want, and then you’ll be able to stand 10 toes down on those decisions and create healthy boundaries with anything that disrupts your plan for yourself, anything that hinders you from growing. Congratulations and GO BE GREAT!!!”

“Use your head. Vote for those who can deliver their promises. Live within your means. Do not forget today while concentrating about your past or worrying about tomorrow. Be kind to everyone.

“Congratulations! Go out into the world and be the best version of yourself you can create. The world needs your authentic self, that is the reason the Universe created only one of you; to be anything less would be a disservice to yourself and to all of humanity.”

“Don’t limit yourselves to your parents’ thinking. Approach all things in life with an open mind. I would say that we have enough division in the world, but especially in this country and that your generation can show the world what unity can do. Being kind and respectful no matter our differences can go a long way with getting problems resolved.”

“Life is short, so make sure you work in your passion. Save as much you can so you may purchase a home one day. Make sure you save in your 401k, especially if the company matches it! Be kind to everyone, because one day you may need someone.”

“Today is a new beginning. Stand up and be proud that you made it through. Join the world in working to make the world a more beautiful and inclusive place. We survived a pandemic, now let’s help each other live. Be unique. Be bold. We only have one world. Treat her with care. <3”

Thanks to everyone who shared advice for the Class of 2024!

  • Be a person of your word, you say you’re going to do something then do it and do it to the very best of your ability. Work hard and save while you’re young so you won’t have to when you’re old. Find a career with great benefits and stay there. Building and maintaining your good credit is sometimes hard to do but do it anyway. Live life being the best you that you can be without worrying what others say, be kind, be honest, enjoy life because you only get 1 chance at it so make it count every day.

  • Work to live; don’t live to work! You are replaceable at work, you are not to your friends and family!

  • Cassandra S Wright

Congratulations on graduation! You will now spend the majority of your waking hours at your place of employment. You will spend more waking time at work than you do off work with your family etc., so choose a career you love! Something you feel passionate about or truly enjoy doing! This will help to ensure your happiness through the years!

  • Do not get discouraged if things don’t go the way you planned. You have to fail sometimes so that you can learn something from whatever it is you go for. Also SAY NO TO PEER PRESSURE!! If you don’t feel comfortable going along with what your friends and or family are doing, or want you to do, it is okay to say no.

Also experience what life has to offer you!! Congrats to y’all graduates this year!!

  • Live your life for you and only you. Don’t spend your life trying to make everyone else happy, there will always be someone you piss off, so make yourself happy! Be your authentic self no matter what, don’t water yourself down for anyone. If someone doesn’t like who you are, you don’t need the negativity in your life. Dance like no ones watching, sing like no ones listening, and love with your whole heart even if it gets broken. It’s totally worth it!

If you don’t know what you wanna do with the rest of your life after graduation it’s OK most people don’t you have to try a couple of things and see how it fits and no education is wasted. No one can take that away from you the skills and knowledge you have acquired so, don’t feel bad about not knowing yet and don’t feel bad about making mistakes. That’s how we grow that we become a better person by making mistakes and learning from it so it’s OK to say I don’t know yet what I wanna do with the rest of my life and don’t let anybody else tell you differently because I’m sure they didn’t know what they wanted to do with the rest of their life either .

  • Be open minded but always do your research on everything. Always seek advice from someone experienced who may of been through a similar situation. Always look at your options from the most reasonable to the least reasonable. Be careful pray to God for guidance. Don’t go trusting everyone in today world it’s a lot of craziness out here. Don’t be a follower be a leader in a positive way. Make yourself proud, and always give thanks to whomever helped along the way with the encouragement like a mom, dad, grandma, aunt, uncle, etc.

  • Don’t trust people. Make them earn it. You can tell someone you love them but not be able to trust them.. to say I trust you is better than saying I love you. Do not believe everything your told only if the person which has gained your trust. Not everyone has your best intentions at heart. Only theirs. It’s your expectations that will hurt you. If you have none then you can’t get hurt.

  • Evangelina Castillo

Always follow your gut instinct, dreams and goals. Do not Procrastinate. Always keep your head up no matter the situation and always find the solution not the problem.

  • Don’t do drugs, try to obey all laws, fight against the ones you don’t like in a legal manner, learn about American history it’s much more interesting than what we learned in school. Love America, it’s not perfect but we need to fight for her like family, because this is home. Respect our flag say the pledge of allegiance, pay attention to the words. This nation and our beliefs are being destroyed by people who are not patriots and don’t deserve to be here. You must be strong stick to your goals and cherish your family. They are a part of you.

  • Congratulations on graduating!

The advice I would give is to just do the best that you can do, what you are able to do in a day alone even if it’s get out of bed is the best that you can do because we’re only human. Show yourself grace. And the biggest thing is being intentional with what you’re doing and if you keep doing the next right thing, the next right thing will literally fall into place for you and don’t sweat the small stuff that you cannot control.

  • Life is too ahort to make all the Mistakes yourself.
    Learn from other peoples Mistakes.

You either control your Anger, or It will control you.

We all have problems, just keep one foit in front of the other & keep on going.

Many hands get the job done quickly.
    Work together.

  • Always be kind, no matter how someone else is treating you, but don’t be a doormat for anyone! Stand up for what you believe in and save, save, save! Also, give to others as they have need, and you will be blessed. Take good care of your body, it’s the only one you get while on this earth!
Become familiar with the Bible and get to know Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior as soon as you can. Then, live by His Word! God bless you and your future endeavors in this life. Amen 🙏 ❤ 🙏 ❤🙏

  • Don’t second guess yourself around others. Your thoughts an opinions are just as important. Don’t be afraid to ask for help when needed, life can be overwhelming and confusing at times.

  • Congratulations🎉🍾🎊🎁 Continue to stay focused and know that you can achieve anything you set your mind to. Failure only comes from not trying. Reach for the universe and don’t ever lose hope.

  • Be easy on yourself; the world is at your feet. Be curious and challenge yourself to take leaps forward within reason. Travel and get cultured. Don’t take everything seriously, especially when networking and obtaining a job. A rejection is God’s protection, and what’s meant for you won’t pass you by; it may delayed, but it’s still yours. So, keep dreaming, manifesting, and making realistic goals to achieve. Stay true to yourself and never compromise or try to please anyone; your hindsight will thank you. Always live in your truth purposefully, and you will stay aligned high vibrationally.

Be confident. When in Doubt, Don’t!

Use reliable resources & references. Your word is your bond & integrity is character

  • Beverly McKeever, MA, Life Coach

Remain Patient! After your journey through school you have all these perceptions of that “perfect career” there is no such thing! Only the motivation you find to achieve it! Give yourself Grace and allow yourself time to enjoy your success, but prepare yourself for oppositions that may come, remember if you survived college you can handle anything!

  • Always make time to take care of yourself as you continue making a life for yourself. It’s very important for you to take care of your mental health ✨️ as well as your physical health ✨️ The saying, “You can’t take care of others until you take care of yourself ” is very true.

  • This is the beginning of anew chapter in your life. Now start by making a new plan of what, where and how. What am I going to do next, and where am I going to it at , location. And how am I going to do it. That’s a beginning plan for new start.

  • The advice I can offer is .. Stay focused on what it is you want to Master. Don’t be afraid to Excell as far as you can. Don’t let Anyone tell or discourage you in what you want to accomplish in life..IT’S YOUR GOAL
    EXPECT IT
    EMBRACE IT
    EXCEED IT
    YOU GOT THIS. CONGRATULATIONS

  • Be mindful and create your own destiny, remember, you are the only one that can make yourself happy so go reach for the stars. Always have perseverance and be resilient and just do the best you can. And the good Lord will show you the way. Have patience and a strong sense of value and know you’re worth. No one can tell you what aware to go. It’s your choice and always remember your number one. Life is hard enough to be pushed by anyone else that it’s not going in the same direction as you are. Your spirit and your soul and your heart knows the right choices and where you belong. God bless !

  • Never remain in an environment where you feel unappreciated. Trust your intuition always. No one knows you the way you know yourself. Always believe and have faith. Life has amazing things in store for you. Keep shining ✨

  • Christine Bradley

Keep an open mind. Stay focused. Don’t forget where you came from. Always appreciate your parents.

  • Congratulations 2024 Graduates 🎓 My advice as you start this new chapter in your life is…..to be nice always, to everyone! Put God first. It’s very important to be in the right circle. Don’t fall in with certain crowds because everyone likes them or they are “cool”. Be in the crowd that loves the Lord. That advice is for in school and as an adult. The wrong crowd will get you in trouble and drag you down very fast. and….. Have fun!!

  • Hi,
This Is a great time for you to learn and grow and create the person you have been striving to become. There is no hurry, take a deep breath and reflect a little but don’t lose sight.
Think about where you want to be in 4 years. Set goals that are attainable. Start small, like I mentioned breath and be proud of where you are in life right now.
    Congratulations you did it.

  • Sabine Duplessy-stephebson

Reach for the stars and never settle for anything less ! Enjoy the journey of exploring by adult life

  • Congrats to all graduates of this year 👏🏻
Sure you have a long way ahead of you, but these beautiful years of youth will pass in a blink of an eye!
Just remember that life is not a goal to reach but mostly a path to walk with joy and peace.
Hope all of you have a magical and joyful path to go through 🙏♥️💜🧡💚💛💙

  • Always have an open mind about your next “life journey!” Never expect others to do what you want because they have their own perspective of situations or trials they may be going through However your life’s journey may be relatable for them.
Be willing to always listen, we have 2 ears and 1 mouth for a reason.
Try to be good to yourself and be aware others need that goodness from time to time as an honest reminder of their own worth.

  • Congratulations on finishing a chapter in your life. Follow your dreams, work hard and be the best you you can be. Learn balance and enjoy what you do. Above all love yourself.

  • My advice would be follow God and your heart once you leave home bcuz their the only things that won’t betray you or take advantage of you

  • Thank you for this topic. I finally graduated from being a people pleaser by doing everything for everyone and feeling guilty about putting myself first. My encouragement to empathetic individuals would be give yourself the liberty to be Yourself without guilt. The freedom to do what you love is invigorating and rewarding. Dare to explore different passions and embark upon new adventures.

  • Be kind to everyone, especially yourself. Selfcare is not selfish,it’s essential. Mistakes are how we learn and grow.

  • Believe in yourself. Always begin with self-awareness. Recognize your strengths and acknowledge your weaknesses. Understand that perfection is not the goal; progress is. Embrace the journey of learning and growth. Every step you take, every effort you make, brings you closer to your goals.

  • Live life boldly, not making excuses for what you have chosen to do!!!! It’s okay to not do everything with your friends, expand your friendship, challenge your own mental limits, do new things that you would normally never do, talk to random people who are not like you and build on commonality’s, don’t allow limitations to stop you from pursuing anything you choose(find another door). To struggle is not a bad thing as that is where you gain your inner strength and determination. This is the time to be like a bird and soar even in the rain. Through it all be grateful and humble for it all, as one day it will be over so cherish it in the moment. Life is about moments, build on them all. Diamonds are made in the fire so enjoy, cry, scream and shout through the process, because after 2,4,6,10 years, you will have developed into a diamond’s strength, tenacity, determination, focus and SHINE!!!! Go and develop into the best version of yourself!!!

  • Believe in yourself. Begin with self-awareness. Recognize your strengths and acknowledge your weaknesses. Understand that perfection is not the goal; progress is. Embrace the journey of learning and growth. Every step you take, every effort you make, brings you closer to your goals.

  • Alexandra coutrier

Dare to be different, reach for the stars. Don’t be afraid to walk outside the lines. You might be surprised who you meet. Be the person you were meant to be and never apologize for it. And always shine your light so that you can set this world on fire.

  • Take it slow. Don’t be in a rush. Be observant and work hard. Listen. Understand where you are headed and how to get there in time.

  • The long journey of education has not ended for those of you that are continuing into college, and even for those of you that are not because life is full of lessons, but in the long journey you have just completed trust that God was with you, perhaps you did not know that, and now in your next step for the journey before you, first “ trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding and all your ways submit to him and he will make your pets straight do not be wise in your own eyes fear the Lord and shun evil. This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones” as he will lead you to the right place.

  • Hey new graduates I’m so proud of you! Remember time waits for no one!
Learn to hear feedback and never let it fester. Instead consider it, take what works, and move on.

  • Michelle J Blindert

My sweet mom said before she passed, “Honey, just take one day at a time and don’t worry just pray and if you can’t take one day at a time, take one hour at a time or one minute at a time but don’t worry just do what you can do and pray about the rest.”💞

  • As you embark on the new chapter in your lives, don’t let anyone douse your dreams and aspirations. You all have the ability to create change and new possibilities. You are the future Leaders and Innovators. Go forth and do great and amazing things.

  • michelle d huenecke

Don’t judge a book by its cover. Get to know people, their thoughts, beliefs, and be kind. If you don’t agree or align with them, be polite and don’t interact. Find your friends, but be open minded.

  • Don’t look back, you’ve have succeeded on your own and have accomplished your goal exceed. Nobody or No thing can every take it away Go Bigger and continue your education and go in the work force and go into the work force get your experience and open your own business. The society needs you to win for those coming behind you and the future that’s ahead of you make a better change. Thank you
